Creating Warehouses
A warehouse is a location where inventory items are stored. In e-automate, you can create as many warehouses as you need to represent each physical location where you store inventory items. You can create and use warehouses for functional or operational reasons in e-automate. For example, you may create a warehouse in which you store all used equipment or used parts. You may have a warehouse only for drop-ship orders. Or, you might create one to store items to be returned to vendors.
The following is a list of the different warehouse types in e-automate, with descriptions of typical uses of each warehouse type:
Company Site: Typical standard warehouse for storing all equipment, parts and supplies.
Customer Site: Warehouse at a customer’s location. This warehouse is used first by e-automate for customers that have this type of warehouse associated with that customer’s equipment.
Drop-ship: Warehouse used to organize all drop-ship requests into a single warehouse. Having this warehouse also allows you to designate an entire sales order as drop-ship order.
Fixed Asset: Warehouse used to store inventory items that are tracked in the Fixed Asset module. A zero costing method is associated with this warehouse and e-automate tracks the values of these inventory items as fixed assets.
Other: Warehouse used to accommodate miscellaneous storage of inventory items not accommodated by the other warehouse types.
RTV Returns: Warehouse used to store items received from customers that are destined to be returned to a vendor. This warehouse type is used with e-automate’s RTV functionality.
Salesrep: Warehouse used to store demonstration equipment for sales representatives.
Technician: Warehouse used to store inventory for technicians.
Most companies have, as a minimum, one main warehouse and a warehouse for each technician vehicle. Occasionally, they may create additional warehouses for overflow stock, stock at customer locations, or equipment on demonstration. Companies also create warehouses for special uses for their particular operations.
There are two main steps to preparing a warehouse for use in e-automate. First, you must create the warehouse. Second, you must configure the warehouse. This topic explains the basics of creating a warehouse. To configure a warehouse for use in e-automate, see the Configuring Warehouses topic.
