Creating Service Codes

A service code is assigned to an inventory item. The code tells e-automate which general ledger accounts to impact when an item with that service code is used or sold as a result of a service call. Service codes are also used to categorically include or exclude items that share a service code on service contracts. When invoicing a service call, e-automate looks to see which service codes are charged and which to include at no charge.

Getting to the TransactionGetting to the Transaction

From the Tools menu, select Lists and Codes to open the Lists and Codes window.

In the Select a list or code type field, use the drop-down menu to select Service Codes.

Click [New] to open the New Service Code window.

Basic InfoBasic Info

Complete the following fields as appropriate:

Service code: Name of the service code.

Description: Brief description of the service code.

Service category: Service category to which items with this service code belong. Use the lookup to select Part or Supply.

Revenue: Name of the general ledger account to track the revenue earned by the sale of items with this service code.
Note: You should select a revenue account.

Revenue adjustment: Name of the general ledger account to track any returns of items with this service code.
Note: You should use either the same account you specified in the Revenue field or an account used for returns and allowances.

Cost of goods sold: Name of the general ledger account to track the cost of goods sold for items with this service code.

Service: Name of the department to which revenue and costs of goods sold should be posted for items with this service code.

Completing the TransactionCompleting the Transaction

Verify the Active checkbox is selected.

Click [OK] to save the service code.
