Creating Item Categories
Using item categories, you can further divide broad groups of items (e.g., items grouped by sales codes or inventory codes) into smaller groups of items. For example, a copy dealer might have the following item categories: Printer, Copier, Fax, Duplicator, Supplies, Parts, Non-stock, and Other. With each category of items, you can then indicate if the category is eligible for customer pricing and/or if the category should be displayed in e-info when an customer uses the item category search to locate items for purchase. Additionally, while item categories are not linked to general ledger accounts or departments, you can group items by item category on certain reports such as an inventory valuation report or a stock status report.
