Creating Equipment Codes
An equipment code is used to identify equipment and separate it into logical groups, such as function, name, or size. Any inventory item with an equipment code is considered a serviceable item, that is, an item to which you would dispatch a technician for service. If an inventory item is not serviceable, do not assign an equipment code.
Inventory items with equipment codes can be associated with a make and a model. Typically, you create one model for each equipment-coded inventory item. Only items with equipment codes can be linked to equipment records.
Assigning equipment codes also allows you to run reports based on the logical groups identified by your equipment codes.
