Unhide Files and Folders in Windows
When you perform a client-only installation, the system stores certain files in folders that Windows hides by default to protect the files from accidentally being modified or deleted. If you need to view or access a file in one of these folders, use a process similar to the following:
Access the Folder Options window.
To access the Folder Options window using Windows 7, click Start > Control Panel > Folder Options.
To access the Folder Options window using Windows 8, do the following:
Enter folders in the Search field.
From the displayed results, select Folder Options to open the Folder Options window.
From the Folder Options windows, click the View tab to bring it forward.
In the Advanced settings region, under Files and Folders > Hidden files and folders, select the Show hidden files, folders, and drives radio button.
In the Advanced settings region, under Files and Folders, uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) box.
Click [OK] to save these changes and close the Folder Options window. When you re-access a directory that previously contained hidden files and/or folders, Windows now displays those files and/or folders.
After you view or access the hidden file and/or folder, ECi recommends resetting these options to the Windows defaults so that these folders and files will again be hidden to protect them from accidentally being modified or deleted. To reset the defaults, do the following:
Access the Folder Options window.
To access the Folder Options window using Windows 7, click Start > Control Panel > Folder Options.
To access the Folder Options window using Windows 8, do the following:
Enter folders in the Search field.
From the displayed results, select Folder Options to open the Folder Options window.
From the Folder Options windows, click the View tab to bring it forward.
In the Advanced settings region, under Files and Folders > Hidden files and folders, select the Don't show hidden files, folders, or drives radio button.
In the Advanced settings region, under Files and Folders, check the Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) box.
Click [OK] to save these changes and close the Folder Options window. When you re-access a directory that previously displayed hidden files and/or folders, Windows now no longer displays those files and/or folders.
