Performing Bulk Updates
You use bulk updates to make changes to your e-automate data. The bulk update functionality allows you to change multiple records simultaneously, so you should carefully plan who has access to this robust functionality, as well as when they use it. Best practice recommendation is to create database backups prior to bulk updates and only performing bulk updates during low user usage or after normal operational hours.
The following is a list of areas and fields within those areas that you update using e-automate’s bulk update functionality.

When using bulk update, you first select the list or area that you want to update. This sets the fields that are available for bulk update for that area. You can then click [Go] and update all records in the list or use the QuickSearch to limit the records that you want updated. When using bulk update, e-automate only updates the records that you check to be updated.
There is no undo with bulk updates, so ECI recommends you use this feature carefully.
Getting to the TransactionGetting to the Transaction
Backup your e-automate database. Once you have verified you have backed up, proceed with the bulk update.
Note: You may need to request that your system administrator perform the backup.
From the Tools menu, select Bulk Updates to open the Bulk Updates window.
Basic InformationBasic Information
In the Update list field, use the drop-down menu to select the list area of e-automate containing the data you want to update.
To filter the list of records you want the system to display for bulk update consideration, use the QuickSearch functionality. For more information on using the QuickSearch, see the Using the QuickSearch topic.
To select the records you want to bulk update, do any of the following:
To select all records listed in the display, click [Check All]. The system checks the checkbox at the beginning of each row in the list.
To unselect all record listed in the display, click [UnCheck All]. The system unchecks the checkbox at the beginning of each row in the list.
To select one or more individual record to include in the update, check the box at the beginning of each row you want to include in the update.
To unselect one or more individual record to include in the update, uncheck the box at the beginning of each row you want to exclude from the update.
Updating Your DataUpdating Your Data
In the Update field, use the drop-down menu to select the field you want to update.
In the To field, use the entry field to enter the value—or use the lookup to select the value—you want the system to list in the field you selected to update in Step 1 for each record in the display for which the checkbox is checked at the beginning of the row.
Click the [Update] button to open the Confirm window. The system displays a message similar to: "This will update [Update field selected in Step 1] to "[To field selected in Step 2] on all selected records in the [Update list]. Are you sure you want to continue?"
To proceed with the update, click [Yes]. To cancel the update, click [No].
If you clicked [Yes] in Step 4, the system updates the data and displays a message similar to: "[Number of] records have been updated. Would you like to refresh the list?" To have the system refresh the list, click [Yes]. To have the system leave the list as it is (allowing you to perform other updates to the same list without updating your QuickSearch), click [No].
When finished, click the Close icon to close the Bulk Updates window.
